This is really simple, but I, apparently dumbfounded by the simplicity, couldn’t figure it out right away. After you’ve added your first feeds to FeedWordpress, the source of your feeds is published in the sidebar. While I don’t have a problem publishing the source feeds, I didn’t like the format.

The links are just blogroll links that can be deleted from the links tab in the sidebar. Bam.

FeedWordpress actually uses the WordPress links system to store the feed addresses. So, whatever you do, don’t delete the links unless you want to enter the same feeds in over and over again! (This happened to me.)

All you can really do is hide/delete/remove the Blogroll from your sidebar. Typically this means clicking Appearance > Widgets and dragging it off of your sidebar space. Alternatively, if your sidebar is hard-coded into your theme, you’ll need to go to Appearance > Editor and delete it from sidebar.php.

My fix was really simple: all you need to do is get into the webadmin for your database (or otherwise access your database) and change the template and stylesheet values in the wp_options table to classic. This will set your default theme to the classic theme. Your admin and front end will no longer be blank.

I can’t take much credit for what I’m sharing with you; I just spliced together two different scripts/pieces of code to make this work. If you aren’t familiar with PressMark, it’s a hacked version of WordPress that turns the platform into a social bookmarking utility. It even comes with a nifty Delicious knock-off theme!

In any case, when sharing the links I noticed that it was cumbersome to type a description, tags, and title every time. I found a script called URL Fetch Script that I integrated into the link submission form with PressMark. All you need to do is replace the post-form.php with the modified one below. Be warned! The CSS isn’t rendered properly, so you’ll need to make some minor adjustments; I’d share my file, but I did a lot more changes than anyone is probably looking for in their projects. You’ll just need to fix the submission box corners. Comments and improvements are appreciated!

Here’s what it wound up looking like:

And here’s the code:

<?php
/*

The simple solution was to just deactivate the plugin, then reactivate again. I did this and everything worked fine. For some reason OIOP appears to not want to be activated at the same time as other plugins. I believe it runs a diagnostic test to make sure everything is in order (such as making sure the cache and uploads directory are writable/accessible).

If you’re running a campaign website with WordPress, then you’re probably going to need a way to engage with your volunteers and find out what they’re willing to do. This is actually really easy using the Contact Form 7 plugin. Once you have it installed, click edit in the Contact sidebar menu:

Now you can either create a new form by clicking “Add New” or just add the following code to your Form window:

Name
[text* your-name]

Address
[text* your-address]

City
[text* your-city]

State [text* your-state 2/] Zipcode [text* your-zip 5/]

Email
[text* your-email]

Phone
[text* your-phone]

Interests:
[checkbox checkbox1 "Make Phone Calls"]
[checkbox checkbox2 "Door-to-Door Campaigning"]
[checkbox checkbox3 "Organize/Host Events"]
[checkbox checkbox4 "Send Friend to Friend Cards"]
[checkbox checkbox5 "Help with Mailings"]
[checkbox checkbox6 "Send Letters to the Editor"]
[checkbox checkbox7 "Display Yard Signs"]

[submit "Send"]

That will look something like this:

Now you need to add the message body in the message body form. Copy this code to the message body form:

[your-name] is interested in the campaign!
Address:
[your-address]
[your-city], [your-state] [your-zip]
E-mail: [your-email]
Phone: [your-phone]
[your-name] is interested in:
[checkbox1]
[checkbox2]
[checkbox3]
[checkbox4]
[checkbox5]
[checkbox6]
[checkbox7]
-- This mail is sent via volunteer form on [your site name] [your site url]

That will look something like this:

Then you need to click save in either the top right or bottom right corner of the screen. Lastly, just copy the tag that will generate your contact form in the post or page (or wherever) that you want the form to be seen. In this case, the code was

Your finished product should like something like this:
